Radon Testing

Looking for radon testing in the Columbia Gorge?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the soil. It’s colorless, odorless, and impossible to detect without proper testing. In many parts of Washington and Oregon, elevated radon levels are common.

Radon testing isn’t about panic. It’s about information.

At High Prairie Inspections, we approach radon the same way we approach the rest of the home: calmly, clearly, and without alarmist language.

How Our Radon Testing Works

We use professional, self-reporting continuous radon monitors, not disposable mail-in kits. Our monitors:

  • Measure radon levels over a minimum 48-hour period
  • Track levels in 10 minute increments
  • Detect tampering or abnormal conditions
  • Provide reliable, defensible, third-party certified results

Once testing is complete, we review the results and explain what they mean in plain language.

Understanding the Results

Radon results are reported in picocuries per liter (pCi/L).

  • Below 4.0 pCi/L – No mitigation is typically recommended
  • At or above 4.0 pCi/L – Mitigation should be considered

If elevated levels are found, mitigation is typically required to reduce radon levels to an EPA acceptable level.

We do not sell mitigation systems, and we have no incentive to overstate results.

Why Test During a Home Inspection?

Testing during the inspection period allows buyers to:

  • Make informed decisions
  • Negotiate mitigation if needed
  • Understand the home as a complete system

Our Approach

We believe good inspections reduce stress — not create it.

As always from us, you’ll get:

  • Accurate testing
  • Clear explanations
  • Practical guidance
