What is HUD compliant certifications?
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) standards for manufactured homes became effective in 1976 to improve the quality and safety of these homes. These federal safety standards help to assure that the design, construction, and installation have been met for manufactured homes. The statute generally prohibits selling, leasing, or offering for sale or lease, homes that do not meet the standards. HUD compliant certifications are certifications received from an engineering firm able to demonstrate that:
- the manufactured home is permanently tied down, and
- the home would not float off the piers or foundation, and
- that the drainage of the house will not flood the crawlspace or basement.
Do I need a HUD Certification for my loan?

What are permanent foundation certifications?
As a certified field technician for MFD Home Certifications, US LLC, we are able to perform the required structural inspection necessary to determine if the manufactured home meets HUD requirements. The information that we collect and provide photographic evidence for during our inspection, then goes to an engineering firm who is able to provide the necessary certification in order to proceed forward with the real estate transaction.
What about decks, porches, and room additions?
Decks, porches and room additions are regulated by the construction codes for each state and/or local housing authority. If the property has an addition attached after the home was sited, the attachment is not regulated by HUD Standards or Regulations. Separate from the permanent foundation certification, a certificate of additions will be needed.
How long does it take to get my engineered report back?
This generally takes 2-3 days between the structural inspection process, engineer to review, and then to produce a report.
